Project Context
As part of my UX research and ideation process, I created sacrificial concepts — deliberately imperfect, extreme, or provocative design ideas — to spark user discussion and uncover deeper insights.
All visual materials for this exercise were generated using AI image generation tools, allowing me to create realistic, context-specific scenarios quickly. These visuals helped participants engage with abstract problems in a tangible way, making feedback richer and more specific.
Objective
To visually communicate potential pain points and scenarios in travel and tourism, enabling users to react, critique, and prioritize issues during research interviews.
The 6 major heads
1. Accomodation Problems
AI visuals illustrating issues like poor room conditions, misleading hotel photos, and inadequate amenities — designed to make users voice what “acceptable” looks like.
2. Local Transport Problems
Depictions of overcrowded buses, lack of connectivity, broken roads, and confusing signboards — sparking conversations about mobility challenges in unfamiliar places.
3. Food related issues
Images portraying unsafe street food, unhygienic kitchens, and lack of dietary options — prompting discussions on trust and food safety while traveling.
4. Tourist spots and Things to do
Exaggerated depictions of overcrowded attractions, inaccessible locations, or misleading marketing — used to uncover expectations vs. reality.
5. Travel Booking Problems
Visuals of confusing booking interfaces, hidden charges, and double bookings — making participants think aloud about booking pain points.
6. Travel Booking Problems
Scenarios showing difficulty in accessing ATMs, medical help, or Wi-Fi — encouraging participants to share how they prioritize services during travel.
